It seems that the Acuity of the units has gone up in the past few weeks and units are beginning to feel uneasy. Staff have been assaulted by patients and sent to the hospital with a number of injuries. Patients are feeling unsafe and staff feel unsafe at times and also feel unable to deal with the increase in raging, acting out patients lately. More codes are being called and the code themselves are more intense. STRESS levels are at an all time high.
Be careful out there and keep an eye out for your co-workers. We are in this together so lets work together. Remember to report all unsafe conditions!

I agree, even though the census is very low these days, the acuity remains high and I don't believe it will get better over time. We are due to get more forensic patients from VSH, we continue to have inadequate staffing ratios and in regards to aftercare planning, the outpatient community mental health systems seem to be bursting at the seams! This general overwhelmed feeling from staff creates an even greater need to be mindful of burnout amongst ourselves and our fellow co-workers. Take care of yourselves and each other!
